Zanzibar!
A 2 hour ferry ride off the coast of Dar es Salam is the island of Zanzibar. At 1 million people, this island has a rich (but sad recent) history. Zanzibar was the main slave island for slave transport to Europe, India and the middle-east. The reminisce of slave markets (small rooms with hundreds of individuals packed in) are now basements to churches, hostels and markets... an eire thought.
The culture now is mainly Arabic - and like most Arabic places, the markets are great, food is amazing, and the drivers are psychotic.
But when one thinks of Zanzibar, they either think of the Tenatious - D song... or of the bluest water and whitest sand you can imagine... We'll let the pics do the talking :)
