We came back to Chiang Mai a couple of days ago on our way to head north into Laos. We have made some really good friends here and I will be a little sad to leave. Last night we went to a friend's bar called Guitar Man to see a really good local blues band called Boy's Blues Band. They are really good, probably the best blues in Thailand. Tomorrow we head to Chiang Rai and then to the border to head into Laos. I have been doing a lot of reading about Laos, the country has a very interesting and sad history. They have pretty much been pushed around by all the more powerful countries that surround them as well as France and the U.S. I encourage all Americans to do some research on what happened in Laos during the Vietnam war as it's not the history you learned about in school. Despite all the bad things that have happened to this little country the size of England, things seem to be recovering. Tourism is becoming a bigger industry although it is mostly backpackers like myself, who aren't exactly big spenders.

Hi Melody and Jeremy!
Sounds like you've had some wonderful experiences in Thailand. I can't wait to hear about Laos. I will try to do some research on Lao culture and history, as you suggested.
