While on the farm it was straight to work at 6:30am and I finally did the task that it seems all working holiday visa holders in Oz has to do and I picked my first fruits. I was shown how to pick tomatoes and to be honest its not a hard task to have to think about but it is surprising when others think to pick unripe green tomatoes or those that are badly bruised and soft. The other tasks involved packing the tomatoes and weighing them.
In the farm the arrangement was that all the helpers live in a separate cottage, which was good as I had my own room to myself, which makes a change from sharing with at least 3 others in hostels rooms.
I have never been the biggest fan of card games so I don't really carry a deck around and rely on fellow travellers when it comes to playing games which has worked out very well for me as by now I probably would’ve misplaced a deck or two.
One of the boys had a deck of cards for a game called Dutch Blitz which has absolutely nothing to do with the Dutch and infact the game seemed to come from Canada but is one that I am determined to buy when I get to Canada myself. Another was an alternative rules to the lovely backpacking card game shithead and a new one was Yaniv which is an Israeli card game but has sweet and simple rules to follow.
The other big entertainment in the cottage was Trivial Pursuit which was a 1983 version which displayed quite bad English and the fact that some of the questions were outdated in today’s society shows how quick technologies have advanced and as the game is only 2 years older than me…I must admit it made me feel very old!
