Today is Father's day in Oz so bought a bottle of vino for my surrogate father for now at the farm. Felt bit weird it was in September but then again it does seem that most countries have Mother's day in May and Fathers' day in Sept other than the UK so maybe its just us that are out of place.

The activity for the day was to be dragon boating as the basketball season ends in WA the family I am with participate in Dragon boat racing. I had only come across the sport when reviewing the list of sports/activities  covered in my travel insurance and had to google it to see what it really was. I wasn't aware at that time I'd be having a go myself.

There is training 3 times a week and there are tournaments held between Nov- March. I was shown how to hold the oar and how exactly to row and was placed in the middle of the boat. The training was for about 1.5 hours and god the muscles I've not been using in my arms and shoulders woke up but it was great fun to be involved in and try out and its a shame I won't be around for the races.

For lunch we of course had a traditional barbie with the famous Aussie pavlova and just before i went to change from the wet clothes a little boy decided to jump in the lake after his Ben 10 toy which first dived in and the Pamela routine came out.

After boating, I was dropped off to the train station to go to Perth and stayed at the Old Swan Barracks so that I could be picked up from there for my tour of the West Coast. The hostel did its job for the one night and there were already a few interesting people I had met like two boys from th UK who just came to Oz to cycle from Perth to Sydney - good luck to them is all I can say!

I then met a friend at a rooftop bar where we caught up for a couple of glasses of wine and she kindly dropped me off to Kings Park where I watched the sun go down and saw Perth in all its glory at nighttime.
