. I really enjoyed a room of paintings from Venice that were used for modern tourism. They depicted everyday life in Venice and the paintings of the architecture were absolutely amazing. My friend really wanted to see the Van Gogh's that the museum had on loan. It was pretty exciting to see the work up close but I think I'm more impressed with his work when its in a poster. Something about the harsh brush strokes really puts me off. We wondered into the Impressionist room and sat there for a while taking in the breath taking art work. I saw Monet's painting of the Lilly garden that my parents have a poster of hanging somewhere in the house. His other work is truly wonderful and I felt extremely fortunate to be able to see his work in such a famous gallery. There is just no way you can see the whole gallery in one day, so we ended our first day there by checking out all 3 gift shops.
And now I am off to Top Shop to engulf 4 floors of amazing UK clothing!!!!
Not having class on Thursdays or Fridays is an absolute treat but it also means I cant waste my day in bed I have to use the time to my full advantage. Yesterday, Friday, I took that advantage and went to the National Gallery with my roommate and a friend. Trafalgar Square is a site to be seen. The square is full of random sculptures, fountains and people. More than once I accidentally bumped into someone and got "excuse me" in a language I didn't know. There are these big lions in the square but they are kind of high up so you have to climb to take a picture with them. I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to climb so I let the other two girls go first with their pictures. Seeing how they had no difficulty I went for the climb. It was not as easy as it looks and my friend documented me struggling to climb up and down from the statue (pictures of this will be added to blog). As no pictures are allowed in the museum, I will have to paint a picture with my words, pun intended. We walked around for a while looking at paintings from Venice and Italy
