Misty and I finished the John Muir Trail on September 7th.  http://www.pcta.org/about_trail/muir/over.asp
The trip lasted 18 days and covered 208 miles of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Central California.  We had an incredible time, starting in Yosemite at Happy Isles trailhead on August 21.  A great friend Brian has been excellent support and "home base" while we have been hiking the trail. I'm gonna add photos and such but want to do plenty of written entries to describe the hike.  We had only a couple days of rain and climbed to many fantastic high elevation lakes. wandered over many 11000, 12000,  and even 13000 foot passes through the mountains.  I wanted to thank everyone that helped us out including Brian and plenty of trail friends we met along the way.  It's a hike Misty and I had been looking forward to for a while. We will definitely be back to wander through these granite peaks again.

Hooray! Summitting Mt. Whitney on the 7th of September, at about 7:30 am.  We started hiking at 3:30 am in the moonlight to arrive at the summit near sunrise.  the light was spectacular, the day was a big push of a hike. climbing 3000 feet from 11300 feet to 14459 feet and then descending 6000 feet to an elevation of 8000 feet to finish the walk at the Whitney Portal trailhead.  The hike that final day was a total of about 17 miles and was quite the brutal descent leaving me with some nice blisters and sore muscles.

Thanks for checking in.  watch for images and videos to come soon.  I'll send out other notices.

Cheers,
Mark
