Day 4:  Saturday, January 31, 2009

We had somewhat of a rude awakening in the Thunderbird.  When we checked in the night before, we were assured that we shouldn't have a problem with construction in the morning, NOR did we have to be out by the usual check-out hour of 11am--Willow had kindly secured a noon check-out for us.  Well, much to our chagrin, we were woken by cranes around 8:30am, and then to a call from the front desk at 11am, assuring us that we needed to be out then.  Great....

We worked it out though, and made it to La Familia just in time for lunch--one of my favorite Mexican places in Chico.  After that, we drove around Chico:  checked out old residences (I have a lot of those in Chico), checked out new construction in Chico, and then drove up to Upper Bidwell.  Because it was such a beautiful and sunny day in Chico, everyone and their dogs were at the park that day.  Bidwell park is one of the largest municipal parks in the U.S., and is a great place to go year round for hiking, playing, or swimming.

After perusing Chico and saying our goodbyes to Michelle and Stacy, we were off to Sacramento for our final stop for the evening:  Sid's House.  Sid is a good friend from my college days.  He and his partner Evan, have found a beautiful 1920's home to live in.  They were kind enough to take us out to dinner, and then we got to meet up with our last and final roadtripper, Andrea!  We then decided we had to go out and celebrate the reunion.

All in all, it was a really fun night with old friends.
