We finally got out of Belize, but with no plan whatsoever besides to make it to the border....and after paying the exit fee in Belize we didn't have enough money to get a bus to Mexico City. So, there we were sitting at the bus station after they told us they didn't take credit cards and without enough money to get anywhere. Left with no other option, we make it to a travel agency, book a flight and get a hotel room. So, Mexicali is the closest we can get to where we want to go, but neither one of us know anything about it besides its right on the border....when we flew in, there was a bit of a problem....it was in the middle of nowhere! The cheapest cab was $25, which we didn't have.....but after searching for a while, I found a hidden $10 bill, so we bought the cab ticket. The only problem was that the ticket didn't get us all the way to the border of cali, so we took the chance of telling him to go all the way to the border and prayed that he wouldn't check the ticket. We made it....bought a bus ticket and check out the little town.

The bus ride.....our first experience with US border officials. Quite possibly the most over-the-top spectacle I have ever seen. First of all, it's midnight and we're all asleep when the bus stops, the lights turn on and I look to my left and ask the guy what's going on and he lips to me "border police" This is when simultaneously two things happen: 1)the border cop gets on and starts screaming and 2)the luggage doors swing up and dogs start barking. This cop had the full-on bow-legged swagger trying to insinuate he was a force to be reckoned with and we better straighten up and fly right. There were all of about 5 of us on the bus and he checked our passports thoroughly. Then, he kicks open the bathroom door and takes a step back and prepares himself for 10 illegal immigrants to pop out....to his disappointment, our bus was not armed with drugs or illegals, so they went about their way.....without even an apology for interrupting our nap.

We arrive in Phoenix about 1:20AM. Melissa is graciously there to pick us up. We get to her house, take a shower in a REAL shower, and sleep in a REAL bed! As nice as it feels, there is a part of you that misses the uncomfort of it all. Still trying to get used to it!
