Headed on over to Canyonlands National Park today for the second use of the America the Beautiful Pass.  Ryan flashed it in all of its glory to the park ranger.  It was splendid.  Our first stop in the park was the visitor center, of course.  A very nice gal highlighted to points to see in the park and off we went.  We took a 3 mile hike along the canyon wall and scrambled some rocks. We hit up a couple other trails including one that lead to the Mesa Arch.  This arch had the most spectacular views through it.  We arrived just before dusk and the lighting made for a perfect photo opportunity.  So we snapped away.

We contemplated an additional hike but I think collectively we had seen enough canyons and rocks for the day.  Plus we wanted to take a drive into the canyon and back to our campsite.  Sort of the unconventional, one might say a radical idea.  What this must have done to Ryan's conservative-ness?  :)

So we started into the canyon tackling the switchback trail.  It was super cool.  Down, down, down into the canyon.  I hopped out of the truck a few times to record the Tundra's descent.  We came to a fork in the road that posed quite the directional question.  Even the GPS was confused.  Ryan chose those the path and on we went into the sunset.  Sounds romantic, eh?  Being in the deepest part of a foreign canyon with over 10 miles to go to get out is not overly desirable.  In fact it is quite scary.  We pressed on through the massive rock formations changing shapes, coming to life and seemingly laughing a grim, guttural chuckle at the two youngsters caught in the dark.  Once in the dark, the road went on for ever.  I found it to be a wonderful adventure.  Not sure if Ryan felt the same.

We made it to our campsite around 10pm or so.  We quickly made some food had a beer or two and gazed at the moon. It was really pretty that night.
