Travel continued today with a brief stop in the old mining town of Reefton. After a quick stop to pick up some groceries and some warm thermal pants for Missi (best purchase ever!) we were on our way.

Our first big stop for the day was the New Zealand Fur Seal colony found just outside of Westport on ... you guessed it... the West Coast!  We had a very good time this afternoon soaking in the sun and watching all the young pups (most less than a month old) chase each other around in the "nursery pools".  After a short hike up and down the Cape Foulwind Walkway we stopped for some tasty ice cream and continued on our way.

As we steered ourselves south along the coast we took in the gorgeous coastline and were reminded of California.  Punakai wasn't too much farther down the road and we made the boardwalk journey around the cliff sides to take in the geological formations of the appropriately named, "Pancake Rocks".

That evening we pulled down a dirt road to spend our first night on the West Coast.  It was a gorgeous spot, right on the beach, and we enjoyed watching the sunset while eating some tasty quesadillas!  Who says you can't eat in style while "camping"?!

After the sun set we joined up with the few other folks camping nearby to enjoy a ocean-side (huge) bonfire and night of story-telling.
