We have just arrived back from a nights stay on an island on Lake Titikaka. To get to the island we had to travel by boat this journey took 3 hours. Along the way we stopped off at a reed island. A reed island is an island made just of reeds which are layered to make a platform where people can live. There boat is also made out of reeds which have been intertwined together. To get electricity on the reed island they use solar panels to collect electricity from the sun. The island that we stayed on over night was a much bigger island, here we were met by ladies which we called 'mammas'. these ladies would be our mother for the night. Ben and I stayed with one family which consisted of a mum, dad and two boys one of which was 6 and the other 13. During our stay we ate traditional food of kenwa soup, rice, potatoes and vegetables followed by a peppermint tea. In the afternoon we played a football match at the local school against the home team. We won 6-1! After that we had dinner with the family then dressed in traditional Peruvian clothes and went to dance in the local hall to traditional music. It was a lot of fun learning about a different culture, but I don't think I would like to wear those clothes every day or eat all those carbohydrates every day!
