Leeann and I have decided to go on a one week diet to cleanse ourselves of the sugar and alcohol cravings which have consumed the last 3 weeks of our life (for some reason we have been unable to stop ourselves from partaking in such activities as eating cake for breakfast, eating buns or salara for lunch and then baking cookies for dinner while drinking rum). Aside from the usual "hey white bird",  "whitie" or lol "white meat" comments I get regularly when walking down the street, I was also walking along side Leeann (a very tall and slender woman mind you) and was called out to as "hey chubby one...!" and moments later "short plump gyal" last weekend, which may or may not have had something to do with the dieting decision as well ;).  In any case, we are off carbs with a high glycemic index for the week, so as one of our lunches, Leeann made Channa Masala or just Channa as they call it here.  It's basically just chickpeas with spices, but an Indo Guyanese staple (you can buy it from mobile street vendors who come around with carts selling juice Channa and fruit, and you can get it at any stall in town). It's one of my favourites, so here is the recipe.

Ingredients
-3 cans of low sodium chick peas
-3 small onions minced
-7 cloves of  crushed garlic
-3-4 green onions finely chopped
-1 cup shredded carrots (optional)
-1tsp Geera (ground cumin)
-1tsp garam masala
- 3tsps curry powder
-1/2 tsp salt
- 1tbsp cooking oil

Directions

1. Mince onions and crush garlic






     2. Mix salt, Geera, Curry powder and Garam Masala in a bowl






             

3. Heat oil in pan and fry garlic and onion until brown






      4. Add green onion and stir






5. Add 2 tsps of the spice mix to garlic and onion and stir






      6. Add drained chick peas (keep a 1/2 cup of the liquid on the side) and stir






7. Add remaining spice mix and sautee mixture until hot.






     8. Add shredded carrots and liquid from chick pea from cans if needed to moisten Channa near to the end. Sautee for about 2 minutes.*  Voila! Channa is ready to serve and can be eaten hot or cold.







      * If Channa is not sufficiently seasoned, mix 3 parts curry, 1 part garam masala and 1 part geera in a bowl, and add seasoning to channa as necessary.

haha well, if you eat salara and buns all day long then tiny one shall not remain! I wouldn't say women are all really skinny here, but the "plump gyal"comment was actually made out of appreciation of my round shape lol!

LOL!! Well you are gorgeous no matter what - so why go on a diet if you are clearly super attractive right now and getting comments about it on the street? haha
