Landing safely, and with 5 hours to kill before our flight to Bangkok before our last leg to Kolkata, India, we split a cab to the mall with two other Americans (from Lake Tahoe no less!) that we'd met. Ryan and I figured, sans any sort of guidebook or knowledge at all, a spot of internet to find information about Kolkata, judged by many to be the unsafest city in India and one into which we'd be landing at 1AM, might be in order. In a short while we'd gotten some tips and hostel information, so all that was left to do was pick up some 5-5 supplies for the flight over.
The only real excitement came when, on the prowl to try to exchange our pockets-full of soon-to-be-useless all kinds of foreign currency for dollars or rupees, and thinking that our plane wasn't to board for another half-hour, glancing at the monitor to see that it was leaving. NOW!
Racing back to the airport restaurant to gather our bags and the two others, we bolted through security and arrived frantic and panicked at the gate, only to soon realize that we'd glanced at the ARRIVALS monitor and not the DEPARTURES, with plenty of time to spare. We had a laugh and, exactly 30 minutes later, boarded our plane to the trickiest part of the day's journey.
