Our flight out of KK was scheduled for the next day after we'd arrived so we were determined to make our time in Malaysia count. Picked up at the airport by a guy holding a sign with my name (I'd booked the hostel earlier that day online and by the way could really get used to this name sign treatment!), we dropped our stuff at Borneo Global Backpackers. We brought along Becca the Welsh old maid we'd made friends with on the plane and just happened to stumble upon the very thing that had eluded us in Thailand: the Choose-Your-Own-Seafood restaurant. For a very reasonable price and full belly, I got to hold my lobster before it got butterized (though one of the prawns escaped to sweet temporary freedom away from me and out of the aquarium as I tried to catch it) and it was alllll good.
Getting about as much as we'd hoped out of KK (not enough time to really climb Mt. Kinabalu, the highest in SE Asia), the only remaining excitement was getting my guitar confiscated on the flight to Philippines "because you might whack someone with it." Though somehow the numchucks formed by the shoelaces of my heavy boots tied together were perfectly acceptable. Those crazy rules.

Moral of the story: In Soviet Russia, lobster picks and eats YOU!
