With great anticipation we woke early this morning to prepare ourselves for another day beneath the surface as we were set to head out for two scuba dives off the Varadero coast. Before leaving our casa particular we ate the in house breakfast prepared by the owner. Unfortunately it did not live up to our expectations meaning we will sort out our own morning meal for the remainder of our stay.  At 08:30 we met with a handful of other divers at the Barracuda Dive Centre before boarding a bus to pick up the remaining members of our twenty strong group.  On arrival to the base we registered for the dives and got kitted out with our equipment before getting on board the boat which took us to the first dive site.  This boat ride took around forty minutes during which time the three dive masters split us into groups and gave us a briefing about the dive.  They explained how we were to explore a purpose sunk ship known as the Russian Destroyer sitting on the ocean floor at a depth of 30m.  On entering the water we could clearly see the ship from the surface, indicating that the visibility was brilliant.  This dive was absolutely fantastic and something completely different o what we have done before.  While there wasn't a huge amount of marine life about it was great to dive with a wreck so large, making us feel very small.  After a short boat ride and mandatory rest we prepared for our second dive on Monkey Reef.  This dive was much shallower at a maximum depth of just 12m.  During the forty five minutes we were submerged we saw a lot of tropical fish and colourful coral.  Feeling exhausted we took the opportunity to snack on our way back to land.  On the way back to our casa particular we found a street vendor to buy lunch from which satisfied our immense hunger.  Diving always seems to build up a big appetite.  After a refreshing shower we relaxed for a while until around 16:30 when we braved the heat and went for a half an hour run.  After working up quite a sweat we sat in the shade and ate a delicious typically Cuban meal prepared by a friendly street chef.  We then headed down to the beach for a swim before sitting on the white sand to watch yet another spectacular sunset.  On the way back to our casa we stopped by several market stalls and bought a few souvenirs.  Once back we settled in for a quiet night after an exhausting day.
