Today we went on a tour that took us to the underground city of Derinkuyu, Ihlara Valley, Selime Cathedrale and an onyx jewellery workshop and store.  The underground city was particularly interesting as it was where Christians took refuge to escape persecusion by the Turks. This city has several levels and reaches a maximum depth of 80m and covers 4 square kilometres.  Ihlara valley was beautiful  with its steep rocky walls and winding river.  The Cathedrale was built into the rocky landscape and was used up until the 1960's.  Lastly the onyx workshop gave us the opportunity to see how this stone is used to make jewellery and souvenirs.  At night we dressed up and attended an all you can drink dinner with traditional Turkish music and dance performances.  In the three hours Brendan drank over 10 beers and Michelle had a carafe and a half of wine.  The best performance was the belly dancer who pulled audience members up to teach them some moves.  It was a good night out.
