Can't believe it's been 6 weeks already since I first came here! Time passes so quickly when you're having fun...I wish I can stay here for longer and actually do something about my Chinese (2 months is too short a time to properly study it ><). At least it's improving!!! My vocab has definitely increased thanks to my friends, students and also teachers. Hope there will be another chance to go back in the future....

ANYWAY, on the bright side let me give you a little update on what I've been teaching the kids after New Year. For the scout class I'm teaching them New Zealand games (or games that we used to play in intermediate/AIESEC such as Octopus, Days of The Week, Knights Horse Cavalier :P) and in exchange they teach me a Taiwanese game! Some of them are pretty similar to NZ ones like traffic light and musical chairs while others are different.

For the performance class they're teaching me either Taiwanese song (Bang Chun Hong 望春風 and 小姐 請你給我愛) or Taiwanese aboriginal dances. Interestingly, the second song was actually taken from an Indonesian song and then they added Taiwanese words into it! This is the Taiwanese version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRAS7q_mCIk and this is the Indonesian version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFBMfEAxiTk). The lyrics meaning are quite different as well - the Taiwanese version talks about how the guy is courting the girl but she already likes him and is very shy. The Indonesian version talks about a guy liking a pretty girl but he doesn't know if she's a good or bad girl. I'm gonna teach the grade 8s the Indonesia version this week yayy :)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       For the Taiwanese dance, I got the chance to wear Amis (one of the aboriginal tribes - there are 13 in total) traditional clothes which was super cool! I was told in one of the students' presentations that different tribes have different specialties for example the Amis tribe is good at dancing while another tribe has amazing voices (some of their songs have 13 different voices!). Their dance is hard to describe through words it's slightly similar to hip hop (I first thought that I was learning a modern aboriginal dance but then the teacher said that it's quite traditional).

I'll try and get the pictures from the teacher this week so I can post them up!
