From Cairo I went quite straight to Dahab (with a short stop in Sharm, but I didn't go into town, didn't hear many good things about Sharm...), as I was really ready to go a few days to the beach to just relax and enjoy some swimming, snorkeling or diving.
In the bus, I met an Egyptian guy from Alexandria, also going to Dahab, but for some construction works. I stayed at the same hotel as he did for a few days, and we had some good time together with his friends from work!
I decided to do my first scuba diving, and did the open water diving course. It took finally three days, and was a beautiful experience, definitely worth the money! The coral reefs and the fishes in the red sea are unique and can definitely be recommended!
Ah, yes, and I also met up again by chance with the two Dutch backpackers who I'd met already in Wadi Halfa, Aswan and Cairo.
I expected Dahab to be much calmer, as it is supposed to be a laid-back backpacker place (according to lonely planet), but it was quite crowded and tourist shops go all the way along the promenade. Though as there were not as many tourists as usual (due to the political situation) most places were quite empty. And if you were looking for some food along the promenade, everybody offered something like a free entry drink, starter, soup and dessert, plus 30% discount for the main mail to get people into their restaurant. :)
