My friend AK came for a visit at the beginning of April. The day after his arrival, he, my friend Denise and I took a 5 hour bus ride up to Ella (in the mountains) where we stayed in a place with an incredible view of Ella gap. Apparently on a clear day you can see to the ocean - even though it's probably over 100 kms away. I think Ella is at about 2000m altitude. In the afternoon we watched the clouds roll in - we were actually in the clouds most of the evening! It hadn't rained in that area for 4 months. Two hours after we got there, it poured. It was really nice and refreshing. I slept with a blanket for the first time in a long time.
The next day we went for a hike and got caught in the pouring rain. We found refuge with a family who lived on a green-bean plantation and served us tea.
Next, we took a train to Heputale, another quaint mountain village. The scenery along the way was breathtaking - tea plantation covered hills, green as far as the eye could see.
In Hepulale, we visited a tea factory/plantation and enjoyed more of the cool mountain climate (nothing a little arrack didn't fix...).
Then we headed for the beach and spend a few days partying and relaxing on the beach.
