Where did January go?? Time is just flying by!
In the past few weeks I managed to complete my Open Water Diver certification! I've done the four dives required for the certification. The last one, sea turtles were surfacing a few meters from the boat. The other divers saw them up close under water. I wasn't so fortunate, but to see them from the boat was really cool. From the boat after my first dive, we saw some long skinny fish dancing across the surface of the water. It would kind of bounce on its belly a few times, then stand erect and do some sort of shimmy thing then bounce again. It must have done this for 300m. I think I'd rather not know what was chasing it!
Under water is an incredible world ... I could spend hours describing the rich colors, textures, patterns, sounds, sensations... I can't wait to get back out there!
Last weekend Denise and I spent in Hikkaduwa - a really touristy beach about 2 hours North of Matara. The beach was packed with surfers, good food, cheap accommodations and had more of a 'western' atmosphere than I've felt in a long time. It was a nice change.
The climate here has changed a little bit: from really friggin hot with occasional showers to really, really friggin hot with no rain in sight. I walk to work at 8am at which point I consider using my umbrella for shade - the sun is that hot. There is no avoiding sweating and because it's dry, it's really dusty. Sweat + dust = yuck.
Hope you are well, wherever you are. And if you're in Winnipeg, I hope you're keeping warm!
