Our fleeting visit to Salt Lake City ended today. I'm glad we didn’t go into town or try and navigate our way with the RV through the over and under freeway system again!

In addition to this we caught note of the following event in town which would have made city travel even more interesting.  There was a HUGE conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which was to reach a global audience estimated to be in the millions.  On the news they were interviewing people who had come to Salt Lake City from around the world and discussing how transport in the city was catering for this event.  No...I don't think they were catering for us!

It was a pretty direct route down the I-15 until we drove a couple of hours on quieter more scenic roads to Kanab.  The trip out of Salt Lake City could have been nicer and I kid you not...there was 40 miles (not kilometers) of road works!  Thank goodness Darren was driving as the 6 lane freeway was cut down to 3, with what we call 'orange death barrels’ on both edges of the road.  This makes the roads very tight as there is no shoulder or room to move with the wide RV.  When I drive during these times I grip the wheel so tight and feel quite freaked out.  I definitely have a new appreciation for those really big trucks, though I know they have a lot more experience than we do.

We stopped at a road side stop and had ‘Wendy’s’ for lunch.  What a queue...but it was well worth the wait.

On the smaller more picturesque road to Kanab (now we are off the I-15) we saw a very smashed up car where the man had lost control and ended up backwards in the hillside.  The roads were alright, though around one corner we hit a huge gust of wind and Darren really had to fight to keep control of the RV.

The RV Park tonight is nice and seems to be run very efficiently by a Dutch couple.  Everything is lovely, clean and well run...though we were told numerous times that children have to be quiet and can’t do this or that or the other around the park.  (This included riding bikes, rollerblades etc...not that our girls would anyway!)   How you would roller-blade over rocks?  I don’t know...but anyway...

For the first time all holiday we see the possibility of rain and got about 20 drops.  We have been hit by quick gust storms every now and then, which are really fierce and make you want to run and hide.

It was still quite warm when we arrived and there was a nice little pool for the girls.  It wasn’t heated...but I knew this would not stop Holly.  With some shocked faces (water was freezing) she was in it within a couple of minutes.  Emily on the other hand took a little coaxing from Holly to get her in.  This coaxing was in the form of a few splashes here and there, some leg pulling and some more splashing...until eventually Emily was so wet that she decided that she may as well go in.  Another lady came and sat dipped her toes in...made a shocked face...and then left.

Very close to this park are the shops and we walked to the local Chinese Restaurant and had our first dinner out.  It was nice to eat out of our little box.  We ordered our meals...and we forgot!  Yes we forgot how big meals are in America!!!  I know...we were warned by many people, many times.  Darren got Mongolian Beef and his meal when finished it looked just as big as it was when he started.  If we’d have eaten any more I think we would have popped.

I am very tired today and think I will go and read a book in bed.
