I have spent a wonderful, relaxing and fun filled week and a half in my second home Portland, Oregon. It was amazing to just be able to catch up with old friends l had made there at Esther and Jordan's wedding on the night that l arrived, and to also make some new friends!

I arrived after a rather stressful plane ride coming from Chicago, in which l nearly miss the plane but amazingly ended up in first class next to a old woman afraid of flying with a bad case of dementia! After introducing myself to her every 15 minutes l eventually gave up and put my eye mask on and tried to sleep for the flight.....l hate that l have now experienced first class! Its pure luxury with hot towels, food and drinks and actually good magazines abounding! I arrived in Portland and met my wonderful friend Jas at the airport and felt like l was almost home! Jas and Lynette whisked me away to Jasīs grandmothers where l tried to sleep in the massive comfortable bed before getting ready for the wedding that evening. It was interesting to see and American and CBC wedding...where l was a little confused while the candles were not lite and then found out that they have candle lighters, no readings from friends or family or scripture and a very long slide show at the end of the wedding. It was a beautiful wedding though and l really enjoyed the gelati in the church gardens with buffet food and twinkling tea lights filling the overhanging trees.

The following day Dan, Lynette and Jas took my on a trip up to Mt Hood where l chatted to Dan about hunting and saw some of the areas where he hunts. The whole drive and day was just beautiful viewing Mt Hood and then being able to climb up it to Timberline lodge and have lunch there, viewing an amazing Chalet house that made my jaw drop and then taking the Fruit Loop through Hood River Valley where we drove through the wineries and fruit orchards and l got to sample some Huckleberry jam (which is a berry that only the Native Indians are now allowed to pick) and having the most amazing Espresso ice cream! We then checked out some puppies Dan and Lynette were interested in and l got to chase them around their garden...they were adorable! It was an amazing day and made me realize just how beautiful and underrated Oregon is!

Sunday of course was a church even filled day where l got to go to church for the first time in like 9 months and loved every minute of it with Donna leading and Ps. Frank speaking on atmosphere and unity. Jas and l then checked out CBCīs new ice skating rink with Doug and went out for lunch with the Lasits to the Spaghetti tree. That evening l went and heard Jas talk to her small group about her African experience which was fantastic to hear about, and then we watched A Cinderella Story with hopeless romantic Julie!

Monday was another beautiful day where l got to catch up with Elisa who surprised me by taking me to Cannon Beach...which would have to be one of my favorite beaches in the world! It is always windy and cold there and was strange seeing surfers with wetsuits on in the middle of summer but the rocky beach is simply stunning! Elisa and l had amazing coffee and pizza at the nearby beach restaurants and caught up on the last year and a half since l had traveled with her last in New Zealand. It was a fun road trip and a beautiful day!

Tuesday l spent at the church in the morning catching up with people, going out for lunch with Bre and then spending the afternoon with Lora and her beautiful 5 week old baby Hayley. We visited Costco which is always an experience, and l pushed around the huge trolley and tried to work out the complicated rules of shopping at Costco. I soon worked out there are none and nobody sticks to there side...its just pure traffic jams everywhere! The mocha frappe though made up for all that and catching up with Lorz was great and seeing her as a Mum! That evening Jas and l got our make up done by Janette who works for Clairns and then we went out for Mexican which l had been craving with my new found friend Kim and Julia. I soon remembered why the Americans have doggy bags....the meal was huge!

Wednesday was a much needed travel day where l simply booked things for Sth America. That evening though l got to go to GC Downtown where Doug preached an awesome message and l got to catch up with crazy Henry!! Was a fun night!

Thursday Jas took a sick day off work and Kim joined us and took me on a surprise trip to Kahnida...a pool in the middle of dry central Oregon located on a Indian reserve. It was a spectacular setting and we enjoyed soaking up the sun and watching the buoy's in the middle of the pool! On the way home we by passed a bush fire and drove through the beautiful Hood Valley again! Gosh this state is beautiful! That evening we stayed up watching the 2nd Bourne movie and some of the American Office which l have to admit is funnier than the UK one and l am now a big fan!

Friday morning l had a migraine and then went in and helped out at the GU office, before going to see the Bourne Supremacy with Jas, Kim, Jana, Peter and Becky. Great movie!!! We then all went back to Peter and Beckyīs new place and ate berries with ice-cream while watching more of the Office.

The remainder of my time in Portland was so much fun! I got to hang out with Donna all day Saturday going to a GC worship meeting and piano worship and got to pick her brain about everything, learn to play the Wee an interactive video game of Jerīs which Jas and Kim where very passionate about winning, l got to make smores at Julianna and Kimīs house and try Root Beer for the first time, l got to go to the Origin Party and meet some new people and hang out with old ones, l got to watch alot of the office, the Holiday at Kims and funny UTube videos and got to go out for a free three course dinner at Oregon culinary institute with Julianna, Kim and Jas! It was a great week and a half of fun and new memories, renewing old friendship and making new ones! To all my Portland friends....l love you all and come visit me in Melbourne soon!!!
