Passau, a lovely town on the German Austrian border straddles three rivers and was once the religious centre of Austria and Bavaria. Today however it is more a university town in which my brother once lived whilst completing a German exchange.

I had planned to come to Passau to visit the family he lived with and to see Konrad, the German boy who had lived with my family in Melbourne for three months over 4 years ago. Never had l imagined that Passau was going to be so lovely. Its main church St Stephens is a Baroque masterpiece from the outside and quite simply stunning inside, and claims to contain the largest organ in all of Europe. I had no idea it was so stunning, and as Konrad opened the door l stood there shocked.

Neither did l realise that in the two days l was staying with the family that they would have me riding ride on mowers, chopping wood with a machine l was highly likely to kills myself with and stocking the cellar with the winters wood supply! Something my brother never had to do in the 3 months he was there! It was fun though, l will never forget nearly running Konrad over with the ride on mower (which l was learning to use) and nearly cutting my arm off with the electric chopping machine! All part of the memories of my time in Passau!

The home l stayed in was lovely, and l enjoyed so much spending time with the family, watching Arsnic and Old Lace with Konrad while drinking beer and sitting up listening to funny stories about my brother time here! I spent one lovely evening attending a school music concert which Konrad was playing violin in, it was probably the highest standard school music concert l have ever seen!

I spent two lovely days in Passau, and adored my little room overlooking the whole town....a view l will never forget! Konrad and l departed early in the morning to Vienna in his familys Merc, driving on German Autobahn (which has no speed limit), listening to Micheal Jackson most of the way....never will forget that road-trip...what a Thriller!
