The day started early in our small hotel room. We woke up at 7:00 am. We ate breakfast at the hotel and went to wait for the bus that would take us to Troy. It was 20-30 minutes from Canakkale. We picked up our tour guide at the entrance to the park. He was extremely knowledgeable! He has actually written several books about Troy and even participated in the excavations in the past. We went from ruin to ruin across the 9 different cities that were all once Troy at one time or another. The guide explained all of the cultural, historical, and folkloric background of each site. Milo was really excited to be on the same land as King Priam and Achilles. The scenery was breathtaking. The climate was HOT! 34 degrees Celsius (I'll let you do the conversion).

After Troy, we returned and just chilled for a half hour. Then we were off to the Gallipoli Peninsula. The following fact will explain the importance of Gallipoli: 500,000 people died as a result of 8 months of battle in World War I. It was probably one of the bloodiest encounters. This place constitutes a turning point in Turkish history and it requires a visit.

We took a private boat across the Dardenalle and ate lunch. Then we drove in a bus to each battle site. Our guide was also pretty knowledgeable. He explained the history and anecdotal stories from both sides of the battle. This battle was especially interesting due to how all sides of the battle demonstrated respect for one another and continue to today as well!

Well, we've got to run off to a movie with Mel Gibson about Gallipoli. We'll be back to add pictures and maybe write some more.

Love you all!
