Where I stayed
Left Freiburg early in the morning, not because we didn't like the town, but because we just wanted to escape from our hostel. Freiburg was actually my favourite place so far, as it was a nice mixture of old buildings and trendy shops, and the people were very friendly and more than happy to chat in English, which was great because my German is just terrible. We took the 8am train to Lausanne, Switzerland which took about 3 hours. We then had to lug our backpacks up a very steep hill to our guesthouse. However, it was worth it - Lausanne Guesthouse is beautiful and I would highly recommend it to anyone travelling in Switzerland. It's very modern and comfortable, and has a rose garden out the back with a BBQ and seating area. We had a breathtaking view of the Swiss Alps from our balcony. There's even a resident cat!
Lausanne put on some fantastic weather for us, so we wandered down to the old fishing town area called Ouchy and had a picnic in the gardens overlooking Lake Geneva and the Swiss Alps. We found some pre-mixed Bircher muesli and yoghurt in the supermarket, and I really hope I can find it back in Australia cos it was really tasty.
We spent the afternoon walking up to the shopping area (which is also built on the side of an extremely steep hill - Swiss town planners are crazy!) and looked at Swiss army knives, Swatch watches and Swiss chocolates.
We made ourselves a fantastic dinner back at the guesthouse, and ate outside in the BBQ area. Ended up sitting there for hours drinking beer and wine and soaking up the sunshine. I reckon I'd move to Lausanne tomorrow if I could!
