Arrived back yesterday in Delhi, after covering 3000km, and to be honest thats exactly how much ground it felt like we had covered. our driver took us a quick tour of the city. First to Humayun's tomb, and later to india gate (comeration of fallen soldiers in war), and to the ghandi museum, which was both colourful, and intresting, the father of india. we also went to the lotus temple, which looks shockingly similar to the sydney opera house. you went into a room, complete silence, you could hear the beutiful unused acousticsfrom the birds in the roof, and yet felt strangly at peace, after the constant hustle of Indias streets, deep breath and away we go.

we then said a heart felt goodbye to malik, who told me (danny) he loves me allot, and then we were back in the throbbing Paharganj area of new delhi,a little wiser, and a little tougher, and most definitly a little dirtier. back to the namaskar hotel again, beofore out for a few quick beers and whiskey, to say farewell to mark(8% kingfisher beer can really give you a kick up the arse). mark mentioned that he's read some pages of this and that it was always negative. so long head, i just want to say it was great having you along for the ride, we had loads of fun, and it wouldn't have been as easy a transition for us or as much fun if you hadn't been here. lots of tiny ear love going out to ya.

so alone in Delhi today, we started plotting our next adventures. first to the train station to book tickets to amritzar, a relativily simple task you would have thought. wrong! on the way, a very friendly guy tells us the way to the tourist office, smelt fishey, especially when somene else ( a friend), said the same thing, and every time we stopped he tryed to push us on, 'only the indians go into the station, foreign nationals round this way'. we held firm and decided to go into the station, darting away from the man following us, when he wasn't looking. inside the station we found the real buerou, and finding out from an italian, that they had wanted 10 timed the price at the other place, always on the make, we felt proud that we had held our ground. we then took our first Rickshaw, 2 weeks and no rickshaw, we must say in our defence that malik would refuse to let us take one, caus he said it was a waste of money, but poor form all the same. anyway haggled allot, thought they were gonna start hitting each other, we done well, and still payed over the odds, but at least we had control, which is the hardest thing to get sometimes. anyway to the red fort, another huge fort, built right in the centre of old delhi, and a nice relaxing afternoon, baring the pictures that we had to have taken with kids, and the usual staring that theblond one gets. hello sir, hello hello, where are you from, baffling, nice ,fun , frustrating ,india oh india. tommorow another day, and another city.

Danny/Kate
Your desciptions brings back some very strong and vivd memories !! all good in there own way. We found it compelling and scary at the same time....what is that all about !!
Kingfisher isn't bad though.....
Haggling....we were sick of it by the time we left and we were only there for 8 days.
Now I know what goldfish must feel with so many people being interested in us (or our money....not sure which)
Rickshaw was brilliant wasn't it ? but our Kuoni rep did the deal and Health & Safety assessment (NOT)
What has been the highlight in the first couple of weeks ? I gues animals might be in there some where.
Nan said thanks for remembering her birthday....well done (mums is on 17th Oct & Dad 18th Jan)...

Also exceptionally good to hear your voice loud and clear, Kate, on the answer machine tho how sad that we weren't here. But have had a nice day at Rose Bay, then Bondi for lunch (noodles) and coffee and cake, weather decidedly cool... this is Pearlie's v low key b'thday.
Lots of love, enjoy the next steps, Meg xx
