Sunday morning we were up early after a not so great night’s sleep. We went to our orientation meeting to learn all about the operation of our coach, got the keys and set out. The Boersma’s were waiting in the parking lot of the local grocery store. We left the Winnebago plant at about 9:30, stopped at the store to buy just a few things like water and Kleenex and we were off. We drove up into Minnesota and picked up US 90. We drove across lower Minnesota and South Dakota to Chamberlain, SD. It was a long day but we stopped for lunch at a rest stop and then we stopped in Sioux Falls to stock our coach with groceries. Those were two much needed breaks. We saw some beautiful farm land as we drove across the two states and we really do understand why they call this the “bread basket of the world.” The soil is so black and the little green shoots that were coming up were lush and green. Traveling across this part of the country truly gave us an appreciation of the farmers who feed us everyday.
We stopped at a beautiful campground/marina in Chamberlain, SD for the night and had our Mother’s Day dinner at the restaurant at the marina. The campground was on the Missouri River. It was quite wide at this point and the hills on the other side were breathtaking in the beautiful sunset. After dinner we went for a walk along the shoreline and passed the harbor where we saw a Bayliner that appeared to be similar to our former boat. After a stroll along the marina and back to the motor homes we settled in. It was early to bed for all of us. Dave and I were very tired due to the high learning curve of driving such a large vehicle. It has been an adjustment...but an exciting adjustment at that!
