Today I complete the stretch of the Mosel river to where it flows into the Rhine river at Koblenz, logging 57 kilometers. All in all, the past three days, I've biked 195 kilometers. This equates to 122 miles and my sore legs can attest to it.
My luggage and I arrived at the hotel here in Koblenz at about the same time so I am once again reunited with my full complement of travel gear. Time to do laundry or perhaps just burn the biking duds. Now I am looking forward to the next leg of this adventure which entails hooking up with Hannelore and her hubby Reinhard for a few days of rest and relaxation combined with day biking trips from a vacation house they have rented in Remagen....which is just a hop skip and a jump down the Rhine.
The riding today was more strenuous and nerve wracking than the shorter distance would indicate as there were more rough stretches...the final 10 kilometers were on a major highway, B49, with zero shoulders to bike on...just barrel along as fast as you can go and pray all the cars give way...and I must say the German drivers are splendid in this regard
I made a few pics to add to the collection. The lady is Marta, the proprietor of the Haus Schwarzenberg Hotel in Ernst. I can't say enough good about this lodging and if you ever find yourself in this area, give it a try. She came outside to wish me well on my journey, also gifting me a bottle of Mosel wine. I can highly recommend this lodging and the meals she prepares are fabulous. You will not be disappointed. She and her husband are very gracious.
