Today's planned route is a shorter distance so I slept late, ate a hearty breakfast as usual, and headed out along the river at a very liesurely, laid-back pace. Even after a mid-day lunch stop, I arrived at my destination by 3 PM. Fewer miles notwithstanding, the daily grind is taking it's toll, as I then felt compelled to have a two hour nap. The muscles in the upper legs are all letting me know that they aren't used to this daily toil. And there seems to be many more muscles than I ever knew resided there. Sort of like a general conflagration if you will, and a burning testament to the now 191 miles traversed.
Last night I rigged up a contraption that has been tickling my brain. I fastened my little three inch camera tripod to the top of my bike helmet
My quarters tonight are in the home of Herr & Frau Rockenbach, wine producers who make rooms available to tourists. Just down from my room is a large lounge that looks out on a colorful umbrella adorned patio. Coolers in the lounge are full of all the various wines and champagnes that they grow and bottle. The honor system in effect specifies to just take the bottle you want, write it on a slip and put it under a magnet next to your room number. I am enjoying a 2007 Riesling Spaetlese that is very smooth and "lieblich" which I think could be translated loosely as medium dry. This wonderful bottle of wine goes for 4.40 Euros. Along with the room and a hearty breakfast the total tab will be E 34.40 or $42.00. Certainly worth consideration for a retirement mecca, or at the very least a wonderful vacation spot
I have to give the Ferien Weingut Rockenbach the highest rating of any place I stayed. If you ever come this way and want a really nice reception go to http://www.weingut-rockenbach.de and make your reservation. Or you can make reservations world wide at http://www.booking.com. This is a good site for all around hotel reservations and they feature very liberal cancellation policies right up to the last day without penalty.
Incidentally, there is not a wireless hot spot in this town nor the previous town of Ernst, so I am storing my updates once again until I find a connection to upload to the net. As you can see, there were numerous photo ops today.
