So this is the second half of this double post - coming down from Patnem to Gokarna, I had little idea of what to expect, except that Ali had told me that I've got to go to Gokarna and to Om Beach.
Arriving and coming over the headland, I began to understand why. Compared to the wall-to-wall beach shacks on Palolem and Patnem, Om beach is worlds away - a double cove of white sand, with a handful of shacks scattered along its edge. This really felt like the beach to escape everything at. So I found myself a little shack, and started to settle into the vibe here. By day, playing on the beach, going for walks to the neighbouring beaches, reading and chatting. By night, hanging out at beach fires, playing drums and singing. Perhaps because it is a much smaller beach, perhaps just the mindset of people here, but everyone has been much more approachable and easy to talk to, interested to share stories and adventures with each other. In so many ways I wish I could stay longer, the life here is so simple, and so good, but I have to get on to Hampi and to catch Anna-Louise in time for Christmas. So move on and away from the beach I must. While I've got a long overnigth bus ahead of me, I'm already getting excited about what awaits next. Will keep you updated (and hopefully get a new camera!!) very soon.
