I found Singapore uninspiring. If you want to shop then this is the place to be but apart from that I did not find much that interested me. I had a wander around Little India and the Arab part of town but even they were very clinical. I stayed in Chinatown and that offered a bit more life but on the whole I suppose I can tick that box. I met up with Ben who I used to work with; he was heading to Australia via Singapore so we spent a couple of days looking for things to do but in the end decided that we were glad to leave. It was good to meet Ben and have some beers though.
My nicest memory of Singapore was actually leaving. I caught an overnight train to Malaysia and half of the compartment was taken up with a group of Jain's from Mumbai, Jainism is a very old Indian religion. There are plenty of Indian's in Singapore and Malaysia but I have spent enough time in India to know that these where not locals. It was nice to be around that Indian culture again. I one point I was setting the alarm on my phone when I realised that one of the boys was talking to me. He was saying 'uncle uncle - you have i' referring to my iphone. There was about 4-5 families in the group and it was nice to spend some time with them and pass the start of the journey until it was time to grab some sleep. They were pleased that I was also a vegetarian and it was nice talking to them about my time in India.
