Hello everyone,

Well, it is my last night in Melbourne for a while.  Yes. Indeed.  I am heading back into the Northern Hemisphere for a few weeks to backpack around Southeast Asia.

This past week has been quite relaxing: I have been able to catch up on some much needed sleep, say me goodbyes to a number of friends heading back to their respective countries of origin and tour around town a bit more.

A few days ago, I took the bike for a spin down Swantson Street towards Federation Square. Federation square is roughly the size of a city block and is located right on the edge of the city center, off the Yarra River and bordered by Swanston St, Russell St and Flinders St. Station.   The final design of the spacer was a result of an international competition in 1997, and consists of a number of buildings, including SBS (public broadcaster), art galleries, a moving image museum, cinemas, exhibition spaces, auditoria, restaurants, bars and shops.  The are also has a vast open space divided into St. Paul's court and The Square.

Some consider Fed Square the cultural center of Melbourne.  Along with the museums and public displays of art, the space plays host to a number of festivals, political and social demonstrations, and street performers.  I took this opportunity to visit Australian Centre for the Moving Image.  Here you can learn about the history of Australian cinema and check out some nifty exhibits ranging from video games to animation to sound art to cinema.  Three are two high-tech cinemas and a number of seasonal exhibits.
There is heaps more to see, but the weather turned inclement, and I now have a good excuse to return...

Well, I am off to Singapore in the morning.  I am not sure exactly when I will be able to update again, but I will surely try to write here or there when I come across an internet café.  Woohoo!
