Today we drove from Queenstown to the end of the lake (40 km) and then took a dirt road 37 more km to Paradise. Spectacular views but we ate a lot of dust. For The Lord of the Rings fans we passed through 4 different locations where the movies were filmed. Rumor has it that there are more sheep than people in NZ (4mm people) and today we saw many of the majority species. We had to ford 5 streams on our way to Paradise but fortunately the water level is low this time of year so our SUV didn't float away. After 3 hours of driving Paradise turned out to be a trailhead for 5 day hikes and the nearest pub was 37 km back. We took in a quick view of Paradise and headed back to the pub for lunch ( black Angus berger and NZ dark ale).
After lunch we drove to the top of one of the ski hills here, terrifying Renee with the abrupt 2000 foot drop offs with no guard rails. Views again were amazing. Tomorrow off for another driving adventure in our last day in Queenstown before we fly to Wellington.
