We had a great day in a great city. We had not anticipated the beauty and cosmopolitan nature of Brisbane. It is a city built around the Brisbane River with inexpensive ferry service the length of the city. The architecture of Brisbane is a mixture of ultramodern and Victorian era and the people a mixture of British heritage Australians and newer Asian Australians.
We started our day by visiting the hospital I was born in, followed by the street where I first lived. I couldn't identify which house it was as I only had the street name however it is a short street and there were only a few houses of the 40's era so I included a picture of the most likely house.
Next we took a ferry the majority of the length of the Brisbane River within Brisbane. It was a beautiful trip as Brisbane has done a special job of keeping the riverfront beautiful. We then stopped at South Bank, a city park, pool, and market on the river. After lunch of noodles and soup at a Singapore restaurant, we took the ferry to the Queen street mall. It is a mixture of low end outdoor shops and high end indoor stores. Finally we walked to St. James Anglican Catheral, the largest church in Brisbane.
Tomorrow we leave Australia and travel to Queenstown, New Zealand.
