Prague was one of the most highly recommended cities by everyone I know at home who has traveled Europe. As such, I had to go check it out during this trip. We managed to find a really cheap flight from Warsaw to Prague on Centralwings. However, they were in the process of canning this flight when we were planning to go, so we headed out with a flight there but no way home. Prague was hands down the most touristy city we have visited thus far. In fact, in the summer time the tourists outnumber locals 9 to 1. As such, you will likely meet a lot more travelers there than locals. A quick side comment regarding the word "travelers." For my English English speaking friends (ie those who learned English in the UK, a British colony, or from a British English school anywhere in Europe for that matter, in American English the word traveler has one l not 2. I have received a number of comments about my spelling of this word as well as my seemingly excessive use of the letter "z" such as in the American spelling of the word "realize" versus the British spelling "realise." Ok, enough of that, whether the Americans or the British are correct I will leave up to you. Back to Prague...I won't mention too much here because I commented the pictures fairly well, but if you are ever in the area, Prague is definitely a city to hit.
Sights we visited (don't bother reading the text below this if you don't want to...it is my recommendations to people traveling to Prague):
Prague Castle: There are a total of 4 or 5 parts to see...I think that they are all worth it. Definitely take a climb up to the top of the clock tower. The stairway itself is worth the experience.
Petrinske Park: This is a great part on the west side of the river close pretty close to the Castle. If the weather is nice definitely walk up to the top of the hill because there are great views of the city. There is also a tower at the top (Petrin Tower) that resembles a miniature Eiffel Tower. Some great views from up there also.
Old Town: Definitely spend some time walking around old town (Staremesto). They were doing construction on the clock thing there so we didn't get to see it, but I have heard that it is somewhat over rated anyway. There are many pub tours that leave from Old Town if you are interested.
Charles Bridge: There is a tower at the East end of the bridge that you can go up in...we didn't make it up because there was a huge line, but it looks pretty neat.
Smaller Castle called Vyhersad that is located along the river slightly south of the main city. It is quite neat to walk around and you get some great views.
Kostnice Ossuary (Church of Bones): This is a church decorated with the bones of thousands(I think 30,000-40,000) of people killed during the Black Death and the Hussite Wars. It is located about 45 min - 1 hr from Prague in a town called Kutna Hora. You can take a train there from the Main Train station pretty inexpensively. It is a very interesting site and it's neat to see a little be of the Czech Republic outside of the tourist filled city of Prague.
Food: U Fleku Great brewery/pub/restaurant located right near the old town/new town border at Kremencova 11 definitely try some Goulash while you are in Prague. There is a restaurant on Jackymova street that I am pretty sure is called Jackymova it has the best Goulash that we found in Prague. A place called Radost FX is a great vegetarian restaurant located at Belehradska 120 a little bit south of the main train station. Also, has a great bar/lounge and nightclub in the same area.
