Driving on this morning we set off for the town of Huarez again with the idea of camping there. Once again this failed, the place we were going to try was only for tents which had to be carried in through the house so we had no chance. We could not find anywhere else suitable and so decided to head for the next town of Casma. There had been lots of road works throughout the town which meant we got rerouted lots of times. This continued when we tried to get on the Casma road. First off we had to cross a narrow bridge and then just up the hill we came to a diversion which was extremely narrow, on asking we were assured it was OK and so squeezed through with a couple of inches to spare each side. It did open up then, but we came to a couple of very tight turns which again we could just about squeeze through. The road did then open up but was a bad dirt road with a stream going down the centre. Eventually it lead us to a nice tarmac road and we started to climb to get over the hills. That was fine but on the way down we found them still building the road and so started to get held up as it was one way only. The biggest of these waits was 30 mins and then we could carry on on a reasonable dirt road until we hit a small village of Yupash and here we were told the road was closed to traffic from 6am to 6 pm and so now we are writing this sitting by the edge of the road whilst waiting. In the end we were able to set off just before 6 and so managed a bit before it got dark. The road was a complete mix, some was very good dirt, just ready for tar, whilst others was like driving through a quarry. Unfortunately the road is only open from 6 at night to 6 in the morning and so whatever happened we had to drive in the dark. It was certainly not an experience we would want to repeat. In the end we managed to clear the road and park up at the town of Yautan, on the way to Casma.
