Off once again, this time towards the border. It was our intention to get to the town of Cucata and spend the rest of the day there before crossing over. As it turned out we bypassed the town and got to the town of Villa de Rosario, just 2 kms from the border. This town is very famous since it was here that the Constitution of the new Republic of Gran Colombia was drawn up in 1821. In addition Bolivar was elected President and Santander the vice president of the republic. The meetings were held in a couple of places here, all adjacent to one another. The main one was in the Church or temple, this unfortunately was severely damaged in an earthquake in 1875, but the remains have been stabilized. In the same area is the house in which Santander was born, now a small museum, which was closed when we went there. The whole area is now a park and a national monument. Whilst there we asked the police if there was a secure parking area and after several tries it was decided that one of them would take us to a parquaedero were we are now parked for the night.(N7.49.22.59 W 72.27.29.34)
