- We did a revision to our plans today; originally we were going to go to San Augustin and Tierradentro. Unfortunately we found that we could not get our vehicle to Tierradentro because the road is too narrow and as a result it would be something like ten hours driving to get to San Augustin and then we would have to return. As a result we decided that we would just set off to drive to Bogotá .This meant initially we were going back trough the Valle de Cauca and then bearing right, at this point we started to climb again to get over the mountains, the highest we recorded was about 10,000ft. Some of the views we got were quite spectacular, although it was a bit off putting with the traffic we had to contend with. The road up is quite steep and it is a narrow two lane road with lots and lots of heavy trucks, buses and cars. Since the trucks have to go slow the buses and cars are forever overtaking on blind corners and swerving back in if they cannot get past. This means we have to break, as do the other vehicles which kills our speed and means we all go slower and slower. As a result of this low speed it took much longer than we expected and so we got to the town of Ibaque and found a parking lot next to a café where they said we could stop for the night (N 4.24.42.91 W 75.15.56.56). They actually asked us to park in front of one vehicle so that they could see us very easily from the café and then got another couple of trucks to park right next door to the other side so that no one could get in between and thus make sure we were safe.
