Today we have set of for the small village of Coco, about 8 kms outside of Siquirres. The owners of the coach builders have a small farm here and have invited us to stay for a couple of days to have a break. The only problem we have is that the entrance gate is too small to get through; the neighbours knew we were coming and have tried to get us parked in a nearby field. Unfortunately there is a large tree stump just in the way. We have ended up parked by the road next to the farm entrance and so shall see how we fare. The farm itself is about a couple of acres of land now filled with different fruit trees and flowers with a view at the back looking out to Puerto Limon and the sea.
26th - A lazy day just sitting around enjoying the farm. The owner arrived about 9am, he cannot speak any English but is a very friendly chap and took Mike out to have a walk around to look at the different fruit trees and tell us that we could help ourselves. We went around in the afternoon and got about four of each fruit, these consisted of lemon, both sweet and acid, orange, again both for juice and for eating, bananas, green coconuts for the milk, a fruit similar in taste and texture to an apple but we did not get its name, star fruit and finally a soursap. This one we have had to pick when unripe because the insects like it so much they burrow in as soon as it gets ripe; we have to wrap it in paper until it gets ripe before we can try it. The apple type fruit was fine, the star fruit was too bitter for me, but the centre core was quite sweet, Mike likes them though. We will try the others later.
