Our first assignments in our new Texas tour brought us back to the San Antonio area. We spent a good deal of time there last year, and we deemed it one of our favorite cities in the country. Since then, San Antonio has added a new attraction in the form of our friends Steve and Ashley. You may remember them from first semester, when we both toured the East Coast together. In January, they received a job offer from a church in San Antonio to start in February. They picked up, packed up, and settled into their new Texan life. When we saw our tour bringing us into the area, we saw it a great opportunity to catch up with our good friends.

During the weekdays, when Steve and Ashley were at the church, Kelsey and I were given the privilege to "house-sit" their apartment. It was such a nice change of pace, to be able to cook, clean (yes, cleaning is a nice change of pace), sit out on the balcony, lounge on a couch... it was very relaxing, and we're very thankful to Steve and Ashley for letting us share their home.

And share the home we did. You see, we originally were going to stay Easter weekend only... about four nights. Then we would have to drive up to northeastern Oklahoma for a show at the end of the week. Well, we received word that that show cancelled. That left us having to be only north of Houston in about a week and a half... So, hearing this, we cleaned their apartment a little extra so when they came home we could better ask their favor.
Funny thing though, within the first few minutes of them getting home that afternoon, they opened the conversation with, "So... we decided that we wish you guys could stay."
I chuckled a little bit at the irony. "Heh, why's that?"
"Well, you guys are like free housekeepers. The dishes get done, the room's clean, you buy groceries..."
"Ah, well.. that's a funny thing. How serious are you about that idea...?" And then we proceeded to explain the situation. They didn't deliberate long before welcoming us to stay another week and a half!

So Kelsey and I got to play house for a while, and we got to learn what we would like or not like in our own apartment--decisions we'll have to implement in just a couple short months.

Our time with the Barnwells was fantastic. We played games, we ate out, we ate in... who would have thought back in New Jersey that we would be together again in an apartment in San Antonio?

Since we really only hung out at nights and weekends, the apartment didn't feel overcrowded all the time. I hope it's mutual that we didn't get burned out with each other, because it was a huge blessing to be able to stay there. Thanks again, guys!

At the end of our San Antonio vacation, we hit the road again. Our saddles will get sore once again as we drive to Louisiana, Arkansas, and then all the way back to California via shows in Texas and Arizona.
