We stopped at Wal-Mart and Lowe's on our way to our hotel for the night.  As we were leaving the parking lot, a girl who looked to be in her late 20's, with a HUGE dog was standing at the edge of the parking lot.  The cardboard sign read "No Booz, No Drugs, Just Need Supplies"  Without discussing it, Mike pulled over the van.  Without any planning, we both reached for the gift cards, and Mike reached for some water.

"Cute dog!" I commented as I rolled down my window.  "what's his name?"

"Bruiser," she replied.  (same name as the dog in Legally Blonde but this was anything but a chihuahua.)

"Here's a gift card for Wal'Mart and some water bottles.  Hope it helps!"

"Thanks!" and then to Bruiser, "Water, Bruiser - is that what you wanted?  Yea..."

Sometimes giving isn't an extravagant story.  Sometimes there isn't opportunity to have a grand conversation.  But it's just responding to small needs along the way.  It's having an eye open, and a willingness to serve.  With enough practice in giving, it's easier to act quickly, without diliberation.  It becomes, "Hey, there's a need - let's do something about it- GO!"
