We first met up with the Barnwells on the road on Saturday, October 30th. We then proceeded to hand out with them Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and again on Sunday.
I already mentioned that on the first weekend, we met Ashley's family. Monday we were doing separate shows, but we came together again Tuesday evening to stay in the Ramada in Wayne. Kelsey and I had days off on Wednesday and Thursday, and the Barnwells had a show near Wayne on Wednesday, so we went to their show with them and did a trial run of a theoretical four-person team. I'd say it went rather well. There were five teachers from area schools there to preview the videos. At the end of the entire assembly, each of them was raving about the video and they were all excited to bring it into their schools. Yay!
We ate dinner together that night and waited for the New York traffic to die down a little bit before Steve and Ashley ventured onto Long Island that night. Kelsey and I retired to our room in Ramada again that night.
Thursday night, we also had to be on Long Island. Come to find out, our hotel was a mere 10 miles or so from Steve and Ashley's. Furthermore, our school the next morning was along the way, so we scouted it out, and then kept on going to their Hampton Inn (lucky).
We ordered Chinese food for dinner and ate it in the lobby. Fantastically low-key. The visit was short and sweet, and we all returned to our respective rooms to gear up for Friday.
But we had not had enough of each other that week. No sir. After school on Friday, we all met back in the Ramada in Wayne (they have an awesome breakfast, okay?) and enjoyed a great work-free weekend. We went out to watch the movie MegaMind (loved it), ate more Cheeseburger in Paradise dinners, and took over the lobby to chat and play games.
We learned how very similar we are. We have the same views toward our job, toward our Christian walks, toward life in general. And personality-wise, we also mesh very well. Kelsey and Ashley are both very energized by conversation with each other, and Steve and I are perfectly content listening or chiming in whenever we feel like it.
It's been incredibly refreshing to spend so much time with friends over the course of a work-week. It felt like a week off.
So, when we eventually did have our final meal together in Chili's before heading out of town, we wanted to bless them a little bit with a Chili's card to help cover the bill.
God is faithful to provide friends for seasons of our lives. They may serve only for a few weeks or months, but they're always there to refresh and encourage. And if you're particularly blessed, God allows them to take a more long-term role in your life. We can only pray :)
Thanks, Steve and Ashley, for your friendship so far this year! We already miss you and look forward to keeping the good times rolling :)
