We had to drive from Eldorado to Austin after school today, and instead of taking the 80-mph interstates the whole way, we took a short-cut straight across on Route 290. We passed through some attractive landscapes (Texas gets hillier has you go east), and some quaint little towns.

We stopped in Fredericksburg for lunch--Peach Pit BBQ was right along the road, and we spontaneously pulled off to the side. We enjoyed some beef brisket and homemade sides as we began to fulfill our Camfel New Year's resolution. We've decided to try to stop and eat in more local-only, non-name brand joints. Shake up our culinary road palate a bit. It was a nice start.
Next door was Fredericksburg Coffee & Tea, but there were closed for remodelling. Next door to that was the Peach Basket... or... something peachy like that. It was an organic foods store. It smelled good, and Kelsey bought some postcards. That was about it. But it was a nice stop along our route in a quaint little Texas town.

Eastward!

We're staying in Austin Monday night for our day off, then hitting the next town east for school on Wednesday. See you then.

Oh. And we spotted two blackbuck antelope alongside the road today. I only know that because I looked them up on wikipedia afterward. And even then, I'm not positive... but... they were cool.
