Ridiculous. Yesterday, in our cramped inner city neighborhood, we had to find street-side parking, but were restricted to only one side of the road, because the street sweeper came through that neighborhood on Mondays between 9 and 12. We managed, even if it was two blocks over. Today, we thought "At least we won't have to worry about the street sweepers." Until we saw that the sweeper goes through that neighborhood on Tuesdays from 9-12. It follows us!

More North Bergen schools today... old auditoriums, inconvenient staircases, crowded streets, loud kids...

The first school's show was in the choir classroom, on a tiny stage that was cluttered with chairs, music stands, whiteboards, etc. We made it work.

The second school looked daunting. As we approached it, it stood on the top of a hill, like a castle, with winding staircases up the entire face of the hill--probably one hundred stone steps. We were like "There is NO way..." We drove up and around to the faculty parking lot and parked there temporarily. When we went inside to announce our arrival, we were shown a place in the back courtyard for us to park and unload our equipment into the cafetorium. No staircases! Just a simple unload from the van to the gym floor! It was a refreshing change of pace!

However... lunch was going on. And it continued to go on. We brought all of our equipment in, but couldn't start setting up until the kids were clear, and furthermore until the tables were taken away. All in all, we ended up not being able to start set-up until 12:50, for a 1:15 show! Twenty-five minutes to do a task that ordinarily takes 45.

We made it.

But another exhausting day in North Bergen.

It's bedtime as I'm writing this, so I'll sign off.

But to end on a positive note, Kelsey and I enjoyed eating out at TGI Friday's tonight. We hadn't been out to eat for a few days now, so the novelty of it was revived. We enjoyed Jack Daniel's bacon BBQ burgers--only $5!

G'night,

- Mike
