Taihape - the well renowned Gumboot (Welly-boot) throwing capital of New Zealand - possibly the world. We stayed at the only campsite in town which we shared with sheep and a few other campers (including one in a Wicked Camper - see pic).
Weather was brilliant and life occurred with due peace and niceness - mostly. It was also in the Taihape library where, over a 45 minute skype conversation, I received the most graphic and detailed description of a labour from my brother Tim - he and his wife Jude had just had their first baby (very exciting).
The journey from Taihape to Wellington was the scene of one of the most dramatic landscape changes we've seen - from lush green to desert - and also featured some impressive looking volcanoes (which Gem couldn't stop taking pictures of). So next stop Wellington. See you there ...
