Catching up on Ilha Grande ... we went on walk from one side of island to other ... supposed to take 2 hour ... took 5 ... followed by friendly dog we named Ricardo ... abandoned us on way back ... beach on other side very pretty and pretty deserted ... crab chasing ... got back exhausted with sore feet. Started to rain that evening and continued for 48 hrs or more ... crazy unexpected amounts of rain. Had a chilled next day with aching limbs. That night consoled Gem after encounter with 'big' spider, cochroach and fly type creature. We left day after that via ferry and public bus and arrived in Paraty - town built in 16th century - one of Brazil's historic gems ... very pleasant except for more rain ... lots of little shops selling trinkits ... and art studios selling art ... bars, restaurants and icecream by the kilo. Today, Thursday, started rainy then warmed up enough for us to head for Trindade beach via twisty turny bus journey - arrived to windiness - like being in England except with different scenery and very big waves.
... we may have time later on to tell about the lady who appeared on the beach with a huge, dead creature resembling an anteater/armidillo and then chucked it in the sea before showing us it's hairless tiny babies ... another time

p.s. having trouble uploading pics - sorry. We're off to Foz de Iguazu via Sau Paulo tomorrow. 24 hours journey, by bus.
