Where I stayed
Mike here. After nineteen days of fast and furious (and fun!) action, I had a feeling it was about to catch up to us. A small streak of bad luck has hit us. As Elana mentioned before, our camera died, leaving us a bit sore. As we spent the day with Sue Ann on Roatan, I started to not feel too well. On the boat back and the bus ride to San Pedro Sula, I felt worse and worse. I had no appetite and my stomach was gurgling! We checked into Hostel Tamarindo in San Pedro Sula and I took an unprecedented two hour nap. Feeling a bit better, we headed out to a Honduran version of WalMart. Fortunately, unlike WalMart in the US, this place had an extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff that helped us find a new camera. Although it doesn't have the functionality of the old one, it will do the trick. After we returned to the hostel, I felt weaker and went to bed in the early evening without eating much on the day. I woke up sick in the night and we made the decision to stay another night in San Pedro Sula. Carlos, the manager of the hostel, was infinitely helpful - he left in the early morning to get me some Gatorade and medicine. Luckily, I have been feeling better and better throughout the day and feel prepared to make the ride to La Libertad, El Salvador in the morning after a good night's rest. It'll be a much better day tomorrow!

Oh, Michael...we're sorry your were feeling so poorly. :( Slowing down and taking a break was a good thing...for both of you. We don't know how you keep up the pace you've been keeping. We're exhausted just reading your blogs! You've had so many experiences in such a short time.
Hopefully, you both will be feeling well for the rest of your exciting trip! Stay well and safe. xoxoxoxo
I was just commenting to mom last night that our trips in the "civilized" world have never ventured into the territory of community based street food. I am glad that you both decided to take a short respite to recover your strength and health. Even my trip to Mumbai in India pales in comparison to your experiences. I am a very adventurous eater, but would probably succumb in your situation (although, I did eat something in Egypt and puzzled about its origins to this day). It was Rome that really did me in many years ago. Needless to say it carries a bad memory for me, but I will spare you the details. Suffice it to say, it is not on my top 10 places to go, although mom and I have traveled back in recent years.
I am glad that you bought a replacement camera so that you can capture additional highlights & memories for all to enjoy. You will get the Pentax covered and repaired.
Our families are thrilled to have young adults like you who share so much of yourselves in the blogs. What a great way to document the trip for all to enjoy.
From my understanding CIPRO should do quite well for most bacteria. Keep your self hydrated and take imodium. You can take 2 as a loading dose and all should pass quickly. Did anyone counsel you on water borne parasites? Do they sell Flagyl (metronidazole)?
At any rate, both of you , please take care, enjoy together and take lots of photos. Mom is home today as central air conditioning unit is leaking in the basement. We are hoping that it is not a big repair.
Ollie goes looking for Nala, but she still wants to be topcat. She is quite agressive, but is learning not to eat continuosly until she is engorged. I guess mom's training had paid off.
Your flower, locals, jungle and food pictures are spectacular. I can only imagine how much fun you are having doing your own thing apart from most touristic jaunts. Yours is only good if you are flexible with time and have goal line in sight. Enjoy and please do keep in touch.

We are so sorry to learn that Mike had a bad day yesterday. Trust that as I write you are both in good health and traveling to your next exciting destination. Keep the blog entries coming....they are very exciting.
Miss both of you,
Ollie, Nala and Mom P
Hope you're feeling better Mike!
I am glad that you took a "down day." Traveling with you two has been exhausting, and I need a rest. Glad you're feeling better, Mike. Take care, and have fun.
I just realized that you have made more new friends in three weeks than I have in forty years :-).
