Merredin Council Caravan Park

We  booked into the Merredin council caravan park where we were pleased to receive a 10% Seniors Discount.  The drive through sites are all gravel, located amongst  Eucalyptus trees.   Around the caravan park are areas of green grass and the entire park is kept very clean and tidy.  After our necessary cup of tea once the power and water were connected, we headed into town to explore. We didn't spend too much time there as being  Saturday afternoon everything was shut and the place was deserted!  We wandered around for a while taking a few photos of a couple of impressive buildings, a memorial to the farmers and the railway station.  We then went  back to the caravan park where we strolled around and met some of the locals....a couple of roos in pink vests and a Western Corella.  The swimming pool water was crystal clear but far too cold for more than a paddle up to our ankles.  In the evening Gwen and Ron, our neighbours from Brisbane who have already done a few caravan trips around Australia, brought their chairs over for Happy Hour. Over a glass of wine and bickies and cheese, they told us about some of their previous trips and  plans for their current trip to celebrate their 80th birthdays!  After a cooked chook from the local Chicken Treat outlet for dinner, we were able to connect to the internet and Lesley, to her delight, found out that Western Force had at last won a game that very day!  After a shower and a little time setting up Lesley's bed, we settled down for the night and fell asleep despite the continuous road  and railway trains passing noisily just outside the caravan park.  We all awoke bright and early and after a good breakfast and topping up the Pajero we set off on the next leg of our adventure.
