The suggestion came from another friend, who did not make it to the trip eventually (!). Why not go to Serbia for the weekend?
So we did, we left work a bit earlier than we should, me, the friend mentioned above and an other one that wanted to visit Serbia forever. Got into the car in Athens and started heading to Thessaloniki and from there on to the borders with FYROM.
While on the road we talked with a friend who lives in Thessaloniki, in order to take our break there and meet him for some coffee. As crazy as it may sound, he decided to ride along with us to Serbia! Of course, he was more than welcome and we brought him on board some 3 hour before midnight.
Our target was to reach Nis on the first hours of the next day, in order to spare some time there that day. So we did, we were in Nis at around 2 o'clock am terribly tired from all the driving, but also extremely happy that we had reached Serbia in time to get some good sleep and fully enjoy it the next day.
After the good sleep, we needed to taste this extra ordinary food that all the Balkans are talking about. So, we were lucky enough to have some friends in the neighbourhood and they took us to small, non-touristic restaurant, in which we enjoyed juicy grilled meat, hot peppers and beaten chilli white cheese (quite reddish from all the chilli...).
After our great lunch, we started our trip to Belgrade, the Balkan capital with the best nightlife in the region and as it turned out, it would live up our expectations.
