After being forced into one more police convoy from Aswan, with express stops at the gorgeous temples of Com Ombo and Edfu en route, here we are at Temple Central, Luxor : its Karnac temple, Luxor temple, Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, tombs galore, all entirely painted with fabulous frescoes, of which you will see none since, much to Mike's surprise, photography is now strictly forbitten and amazingly enough enforced . The odd time we were offered to take photos for a backsheesh , we proudly refused, keeping in mind the superior interest of World Heritage.
Another element of surprise was the soaring price of entrance tickets. Prepare to pay dearly to visit the resting place of the Pharaos : up to $ 25 for the single access to king Tut 's legendary tomb and for those who can afford it, a suggested donation of $ 5000 to have the privilege of seing the crown jewel of the Valleys : Nefertari's tomb, fabulous underground palace lovingly designed by her megalomanic husband, Ramses the 2nd.
